Roadside eyesight tests urged

1 of 1

” Sorry mate, I didn’t see you ” is a phrase we’re all too used to hearing – but if top cops get their way it could be a thing of the past.

They are calling for the introduction of roadside eyesight tests, and wants penalties for drivers who can’t meet the standard set in the driving test of reading a numberplate from 20 metres.

According to the British Medical Journal, a third of UK drivers would fail that test because they haven’t taken into account the deterioration of their eyesight with age.
