Two BMW Off-Road Skills instructors are swapping Britain for African continent to take part in the 2003 Telefonica-Dakar Rallye, which takes place January 1-19.

Australian Dakar veteran Simon Pavey will be teaming up with rookie Nick Plumb on BMW F650 GS Dakar bikes. The team are hoping that Pavey’s experience will help Plumb, a talented enduro racer, to acclimatise to the event. The team will be competing with sponsorship from Dome BSPM, BMW Motorrad GB, Castrol, Touratech, HJC and K&N Filters. This will be the 25th Dakar rally, and riders will aim to cross five countries to get to the finish line in Egypt. This will mean covering 6500 miles in just 18 days.
