Time running out to help stop road tax hike

1 of 1

There are just days left for you to tell the Government where to get off over its threat to raise road tax for most riders.

Thousands of us have already taken the time and trouble to fill in an on-line consultation form. If you haven’t already, now is the time to follow the link, right. On Friday it will close. On that day we’ll also be handing over the thousands of forms you have already sent to MCN to the relevant authorities.

The Government is looking at revamping bike tax, including increasing road tax for larger bikes. Some fear road tax on a superbike could end up at over £100 a year amid talk of a ” luxury ” tax on bigger-bore bikes.

MCN, the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) and the BMF all agree that powered two-wheelers deserve fairer taxation to reflect their advantage over four-wheelers when it comes to traffic and the environment. We’ve suggested an exemption on road tax for 50cc mopeds, as well as opposing the proposed changes to the tax banding by engine size.

If you aren’t sure of the issues, follow some of the links, right to read previous stories published on this site.
