Cruise tops poll for top bike movie moments

It may have changed tyres from scene to scene and apparently been bullet proof, but the Speed Triple Tom Cruise rode in Mission Impossible II impressed enough people to make it the star of the best motorcycle scene in film history, according to a survey of Carnell-City customers.

The action, if you haven’t seen it, is pretty spectacular, with riders turning through 180 degrees while performing rolling stoppies and impressive, if impossible wheelie wildness.

But many will be surprised that Mission Impossible II beat Steve McQueen’s famous break for freedom in The Great Escape. It polled 20 per cent of the votes to MI2’s 40 per cent.

Many of us enjoyed Angelina Jolie on her TDM-based supermoto in Tomb Raider. She got 5 per cent of the vote.

Other top star riders included Mel Gibson as Mad Max, Mickey Rourke and his custom made Harley in Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro Man, and Marlon Brando in The Wild One.

Just scraping in on the popularity poll was David Essex, with one vote for scenes from Silver Dream Racer.
