Your Brands WSB weekend…

1 of 1

More than 126,000 of us baked slowly in the Kent sunshine over Sunday’s World Superbike round at Brands Hatch. Were you one of them? Why not tell us about it? Here’s what some MORE people made of their day…

Matthew Jones reckons he’d rival Jade from Big Brother in the plonker stakes after taking his wife for a drive on Sunday – straight into the Brands traffic jam!

Mike Warhurst from Manchester wants to say a big ” Thank you ” to the Brands nutters who kept him amused while camping:

” Especially the bloke wearing luminous green flippers grass skiing behind a scooter and the guy naked except for a thong and duck-shaped rubber ring touring the site on an electric scooter early Sunday morning.

” And can I say ‘Hello’ to the bloke we caught trying to nick our burgers – he told us he was trying to tidy up! ”

Kate Clark says: ” This was my 4th year at Brands and we had a fantastic time. The racing was brilliant…so dramatic, especially the re-starts of the Super Sport.

” For me one of the highlights is always sitting in front of Gasoline Alley at night watching the fireworks. The atmosphere is always fantastic, and the fireworks are cracking.

” All in all, this year was one of the best ever. Roll on next year, can’t wait to see the Foggy Petronas Team doing the business! ”

For Claire Turner it was definitely a day to remember:

” My high point was at 4:30pm just before the superstocks race, when my boyfriend Graham Sharp tricked me into thinking he had won a competition and we were taken up to the commentary box.

He was chatting with Fred the course commentator, when he turned to me and asked me to marry him in front of 126,000 people!

” I was speechless but eventually I said ” Yes! ” . All I remember were lots of airhorns going off! It was a wonderful day and I’ll never forget it! ”

Graham, new fiance added: ” It was fantastic – I’d just like to thank all those people you blew their airhorns for us, and a get well soon to Jamie Whitham. All-in-all though, what a great day! ”

Iain McRitchie wrote: ” I had a fantastic weekend. Met James W, Neil H, James H, Troy C, etc. Also just like to say thanks to all the girls flashing their chests at the Po’ boys concert, got a good few pictures of you all – the negatives can be had for a price! ”

But he added: ” The campsite facilities were completely inadequate, all the showers were knackered or ice cold by the morning. I reckon about 50 showers laid on for what 20,000 people and all the bogs were f*****.

Michael Boken reckoned it was the best day’s dieting he’s had: ” I had a great day, lost about 5lbs in weight leaving the car park. With full leathers on we had a 45min wait to exit the car parks. The temp must have been up around 40 Deg C.

” It was worth it as I had a great day, watching Hodgson push it in both races. And it was good to finally see Foggy’s bike (so he has one after all!). ”

The traffic control outside Brands also came in for criticism, as did Ducati for slotting its new 999 in a pay-per-view style paddock, but for most people the racing and the atmosphere was well worth the hassle. What was the highlight (or lowpoint) for you?

Maybe it was watching Neil Hodgson dicing with two world champions miles out in front, maybe it was finally getting your first taste of Brands beer after six hours on the motorway, or maybe it was getting home for some soothing aftersun! Or perhaps you stayed at home and enjoyed a day’s riding on empty roads? Write and tell us.

E-mail your memories and any photos to dave.batchelor@emap.com and we’ll post them up throughout the week.

Don’t forget, there’s a massive 16-page Brands World Superbike special with all the inside news and analysis, FREE with the latest issue of MCN on Wednesday, July 31.
