More weirdness from the world of motorcycling

America:

Gilbert MacConnell went for a job as a motorcycle cop in West Hartford, Connecticut. He passed the written and oral exams, but fell at the final hurdle when he was arrested for having an unlicensed firearm in his car.

Inventive gardeners have incorporated a shiny new Harley into a flower show display. It is the centrepiece of the Philadelphia Show and is surrounded by azaleas and rhododendrons.

No-one can find the South Carolina town of Harleyville – because riders keep stealing the signs. " I saw one guy with a beer in one hand and our sign in the other, " said the boss of the local bike shop. Police are mounting hourly patrols of the area to catch souvenir-seekers.

Australia:

Riders are perplexed by a law listed on the New South Wales transport department’s website. There’s a penalty of £700 if they’re found carrying four or more unhelmeted passengers on their bikes.

Canada:

Four riders changed their surname to Dunlop-Tire to win £2750. The swop was triggered by the firm’s competition called the " Tired of Your Name Challenge " . They were the only people to enter and shared the £11,000 prize.

Malaysia:

You get a better class of bank robber on two wheels. Two thieves in Jalan Air Itam told a customer he could keep the £1800 he was about to pay into his account, saying they wanted the bank’s money, not its clients’. They rode off instead with £31,500 handed over by the tellers.
