A special charity tribute event to commemorate Barry Sheene will be held on Sunday July 6.

Rugby town centre is being taken over by bikes for the event, which is being organised by the ACU. All proceeds will be donated to charity group CLIC, (Challenging Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood). CLIC was the charity nominated by the late Barry Sheene before his death, and the event has got the approval of Sheene’s widow, Stephanie.

The day is also celebrating the centenary of the ACU and 100 years of motorcycle sport in the UK, and it includes a procession of 100 historic bikes from the Ace Café in London to Caldecott Park in Rugby. We’ll be updating the details as more events and attractions are announced

Updated June 16:

The charity auction will have plenty of stuff up for grabs with no reserve prices. The lots include:

An original Heron Suzuki jacket as worn by Barry Sheene, signed helmets from BSB riders Glen Richards and Paul Young and a signed lid from World Supersport rider Chris Vermuelen. Cap signed by Valentino Rossi and F1 driver David Coulthard, plus a shirt signed by Jordan boss Eddie Jordan. A pair of Dean Ellisons sunglasses. And a pair of VIP tickets to the final round of the BSB championship at Donington on September 28, donated by Crescent Suzuki.

Updated June 6:

BBC Radio 2 DJ Johnnie Walker will be at the event, leading a cavalcade of 100 Harleys through Rugby town centre to celebrate the centenary of the Milwaukee bike firm. There will also be performances by Motorcycle Trials freestyler Jason Finn. Finn currently holds 12 world records for events like the bunny hop, in which he jumped over 23 people without the aid of a ramp.

There will also be other entertainment, including trade stalls and a charity auction, plus Suzuki GB’s giant video screen will be showing classic Sheene footage and an entire multi-storey car park will be taken over for bike parking on the day.

” Although the day will be tinged with sadness over the loss a biking hero, we are determined to make the event a day everyone will enjoy and remember, ” said ACU boss Neil Hellings
