The official UK Harley-Davidson Centenary Celebrations take place at Butlins in Minehead, Somerset, next weekend, May 9-12.
The entire facility is being taken over by the same people who put on the legendary MCN Butlins Weekend extravaganzas. One of the major attractions will be free demonstrator riders on Harley-Davidson and Buell machines, open to all visitors with the right full and current bike licence. There’s a guided rideout to Lynmouth on Saturday, and Sunday’s rideout will be around the Bridgewater area. There’s also going to be the MCN Babe Squad performing a bikini bike wash, a Run-Wot-Ya-Brung dragstrip open to all-comers, minimoto racing and a free dyno.
Craig Jones, Terry Grant and Paul Young will be performing twice a day in the stunt arena. Jones even used a Buell to take his European title and set world records. Plus the MCN babes will be mingling all day, and senior Harley personnel are being flown in to take part in a celebrity chat show, where you can ask the questions. Plus, there will be 20 bands providing all the live music you could want.
Weekend tickets are still available. Half Board: (prices per person based on two sharing) Studio room: £100, Gallery room: £115. Gallery apartment: £120. Self-catering (Prices per person based on four sharing) Studio: £70. Gallery £80. Day tickets cost £10, and give access from 10am to 6pm. For more information or to book, call: 0870-2420870
And in MCN, out May 7, we’ll have a special 16-page Harley Centenary supplement taking a look at the American icon from a British point-of-view. We’ll show how to blow a million on Harleys, without ever buying a bike, and some of the best race bikes Harley has produced.
If you are travelling down to the event, be careful on the A39 into Minehead. Speed calming measures have been introduced on the road, and Somerset police are likely to be watching it closely.
