The first head-to-head test of the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer is in MCN, out Wednesday October 15.

The FZ6 features a new frame, new R6 motor and new looks Many dealers have already sold out of the first shipment of bikes.

But have buyers chosen the right bike? We put the FZ6 up against its main rivals in the 600cc middleweight class: Honda’s Hornet, the Suzuki Bandit and Triumph Speed Four.

And to really test how the all-rounders perform, we tested them for a ride on the kind of A-roads you’d use for a weekend blast, as well as on the more mundane roads you encounter everyday. We also found out how well they accommodated soft luggage and pillions before performance testing them at Bruntinthorpe Proving Ground and putting them on the dyno.

Over seven pages, we examine whether the new Fazer can out-perform its rivals.

Plus, we reveal the biggest developments in 2004 bike design and examine whether they’re passing fads or here to stay, all the latest news on Rossi’s 2004 contract, and your chance to bid for one of the worlds most famous bikes.

All this is in MCN, out October 15. Discuss this story on the News discussion board by following the link on the right.
