Bikes are 75% faster

Bikes cut journey times in London by up to 75% – no wonder they are now being used by a firm charged with keeping the capital’s traffic flowing.

Siemens Traffic Controls is using a Honda Deauville NT650 to repair traffic lights in London in double-quick time.

Ian Brannon, Siemens Director of Field Services, said, “Responding to faults within tight contractual timescales is a challenge in any large city. London provides significant challenges in terms of getting to the site, diagnosing the fault and getting a spare part to the engineer, often within a window of two hours.

“These constraints led to a serious examination of the spares distribution process in London and some radical ideas to gain improvements. The rapid response motorcycle service delivers a number of benefits for motorists and the environment”.

The average travel time to deliver spares around London has reduced significantly, says the firm. The bike can reach Westminster in less than half an hour, compared to two hours by car or van, depending on traffic – a 75% reduction. Being exempt from Congestion Charging also cuts down on admin for the firm.

Let’s hope regular commuters to Westminster are taking note!
