Bargain supersports

The next generation of Yamaha’s stonking R6 is revealed in the August 10 issue of MCN, but if you can’t afford the latest models then we’ve got the ideal bargain for you.

The latest Suzuki GSX-R600 is currently struggling to find buyers. The reason? The success of its 750 brother. Suzuki had calculated that buyers would either want its highly desirable 1000 Gixer or opt for the cheaper 600 sports bike.

But it was the 750 that got great reviews, performance wasn’t far off the 1000 and insurance didn’t cost a lot more than the 600, so the 750 found willing buyers leaving its smaller sibling to sulk in the showrooms.

A shame given that the mid-weight sports bike is a great bike and only lacks the glamour and headline grabbing performance of the Honda CBR600 and Kawasaki’s ZX-636.

You can pick up a GSX-R600 K4 (2004 model) pre-reg bike from £5299, that’s nearly a grand less than equivalent CBR or ZX. Some dealers are offering a range of goodies as well as a small price reduction that may better suit some buyers.

The slow sales of new bikes has had a knockon effect on used bikes as well with some real bargains to be had in our Bikes for Sale section.
