169mph sidecar record

A world sidecar speed record has been claimed from the UK by a team of New Zealanders. And they did it without a passenger…

Glenn Hayward took his 1000cc ‘Flying Kiwi’ to the new high on a long stretch of road in Mid-Canterbury – with a 60kg weight replacing the sidecar passenger.

He clocked a two-run average top speed of 272kmh (169mph), according to stuff.co.nz

The previous record was 222kmh – set in the UK 19 years ago. An FIM steward was present to recognise the record as official. It will go before an FIM panel for final scrutiny in October. After that it will be added to the Guinness Book of Records.
