Cars caught in bike blitz

The speed enforcement campaign around the World Superbike Event at Silverstone on May 28-30 succeeded in catching 11 motorists; eight car drivers and three motorcyclists.

The campaign continues this week targetting roads leading to Rockingham Motor Speedway on Sunday June 5, when the circuit hosts the Thunder Sunday event.

Despite the fact it is a car racing event, officers are using any large car or bike event to promote motorcycle safety and to enforce speed limits.

“We expect Thunder Sunday to attract a lot of people and all routes leading to the Speedway are likely to see a large amount of traffic,” said Sergeant Jon Hodson. “We are letting people know in advance that officers will be carrying out speed enforcement from Safety Camera vans as well as from marked police motorbikes so everyone is reminded to keep speeds down on all roads.”

Some of the roads being monitored will be:

A6116, Steel Road, Corby (40mph speed limit)

A427 Upper Benefield (30mph speed limit)

A6003 Main Street, Rockingham village (30mph speed limit).
