Floods hit MAG party

Flash floods left bikes, tents and possessions strewn across a campsite on Sunday night when the River Rye burst its banks at Duncombe Park, Helmsley, North Yorks.

Around 60 members of the Motorcycle Action Group had remained behind to tidy up after the weekend’s fundraising Farmyard Party. Luckily the 8000-strong party-goers had left by the time the waters struck.

Local emergency services believe that had the floods come 24 hours, when the campsite was crowded with revelers, lives would have been lost.

As it was, several people had to be winched to safety by helicopter and MAG is now having to consider a change of venue for the event after 10 years at the home of Lord and Lady Feversham.
