Brooklands Relived

The 2005 Brooklands Relived event took place on September 18, 2005, with over 130 vintage race bikes.
Held every two years, the entry list had to be closed early with everything from 250cc machinery to 1000cc V Twins taking part. The event also coincided with the 100th Anniversary of the Velocette marque, with a special paddock for 36 Brooklands machines.
Three parade circuits allowed the feel of a proper race meeting. The short “Jackson” circuit allowed bikes in groups of 10 with a commentary on each bike, before the action moved the first Test Hill Session.
After lunch the riders were allowed onto the longer ‘Velocette’ circuit in groups of ten with a travelling marshal, followed by a final run on Test Hill.
There were also static events including a noise test for riders, the chance to “Be a Brooklands mechanic’ by push-starting a classic, and an against-the-clock challenge to fill a petrol tank with water from a churn.
Prizes were handed out for the static events, with the fastest bike pusher given the chance to start the Brookland Museums Cotton Jap.
The next Brooklands Revival will take place in 2007. The Brooklands Museum is open seven days a week at Brooklands Road, Weybridge, Surrey. It’s open from 10am-5pm in Summer and 10am-4pm in Winter. Contact: 01932 857381
