Fuel panic hits supplies

1 of 1

The planned fuel blockades that have sent the country into a petrol buying frenzy have failed to materialise but fuel is still in short supply as refineries fail to keep up with the surge in demand.

There have been protests at refineries across the UK but despite organisers saying last week that they would stop fuel getting out, all the protest have been peaceful and deliveries have continued as normal.

Despite assurances from both Chancellor Gordon Brown and the oil companies the panic buying started on Sunday and rose to a peak on Tuesday night with many garages reportedly selling seven times the normal amount of fuel.

The high demand has lead to rationing in many stations and many have run out completely, sparking further panic among motorists.

Police have assured the public that they will take action against anyone that tries to stop fuel deliveries, so tankers should be arriving as normal. They have urged people not to buy any more fuel than they need as it’s only this that is causing the current shortages.
