Bikewise '06 a success

Motorcycle safety was the top priority for the hundreds of people that turned out for this year’s Bikewise event on August 6 in Aykley Heads in Durham. British Superstock Championship rider and multiple TT winner John McGuinness and former Supersport Champion Karl Harris were around to meet fans and sign autographs.

Bikewise is part of an initiative throughout the UK to reduce road accidents and fatalities. Nearly 800 riders have become members of Durham Advanced Motorcyclists and the number of bike thefts has decreased since the programme launched in 1995.
HM Plant, which sponsors the BSB Honda Racing team, supported the event and provided Honda Racing merchandise for sale with all proceeds going to Bikewise charities. Other activities included a mini-excavator tyre challenge. Winners with the best times won Dunlop tyres and MP3 players.
