First aid for bikers

London bikers can now take part in a special First Aid for Motorcyclists course with St John Ambulance London.

It’s being offered due to the huge rise in motorcyclists in the capital, and teaches how to assess an emergency situation, determine the priorities and manage the whole scene. You’ll also learn how to make the area safe for yourself and others, and how to give accurate information to the emergency services.

The course is not designed to train people in complete First Aid, but does cover the main potential injuries and likely situations including definitive advice on when and when not to remove a helmet or move a casulaty, assessing who needs treatment first, shock and how to deal with it, recognising fractures and head injuries, assessing burns and bleeding, and dealing with soft tissue injuries.
