Local council dismiss safety concerns

My local paper, the Tameside Advertiser, has carried regarding potholes and in which the local council is stated as considering that they act as “a cheap traffic calming measure”.
Villagers in Mottram who are reported as having complained, were told to (as reported) “like it or lump it”.
Council Leader, Councillor Roy Oldham, is reported as believing that, “the deep craters are worth keeping as they act as free speed bumps”.
The paper offered comment by way of a cartoon showing a biker having come off his bike and with the caption “Aaagh…I wish Councillor Oldham was here fro me to land on!” – very humorous, I’m sure.
Mottram is in the same Borough as Stalybridge and where approx 2 years ago a young scooter rider was the victim of a fatal accident which was due to his scooter hitting a pothole and subsequently the Coroner ordered that the Council should tighten up its inspection regime.
Considering that the young man was killed so recently in the same Borough, the Councillor’s comments would seem to be particularly insensitive, not to mention stupid.
The Council would seem to have taken no notice of the IHIE Guidelines for Motorcycling and would not appear to have a grasp of the dangers to those of us who, whether out of necessity or choice, travel on two wheels.
As a biker, you can imagine who may not be getting my vote next time around.
