Speeding motorists could be DNA tested

Motorists caught speeding could soon face a DNA test, as the police force are pushing to take DNA test on the streets from people who commit non-imprison able offences.

The demand came after a government watchdog started its first public enquiry into the National Database Inquiry, which revealed there is a large number of children under 10 and black males in the database, compared to other countries.

However, The Association of Chief police Officers warned police being given powers to take DNA swabs maybe perceived as indicative of “the increasing criminalisation of the generally law-abiding public.”

The police hold the power to take a DNA test from anybody who they arrest, whether they are later found guilty or not.

The government also plans to introduce this law for litter droppers and people who dodge public transport fares.
