Lakes & Lochs Extravaganza

In August 2006 I had decided I would go to Scotland on the Fazer. I had never been before; had always wanted to. So I booked my time off work, sorted the accommodation & loaded the bike up ready to leave.

As I live in Bedfordshire I had planned to stay for two nights in Keswick, Cumbria to break the journey up & I hoped to ride some local roads around there. In Keswick I spent both days riding & both evenings in the Oddfellows Arms for Guinness & live music. Perfect!

The weather was also perfect for riding. Whenever I stopped I would meet other bikers & share stories. For the ride up to Scotland I was once again blessed with glorious sunshine. At a burger van where I stopped on the way from Cumbria, I was warned of ‘nasty twisty roads & blind bends’. That was just what I had hoped for!

The hotel I was booked in at in Scotland was by Loch Lochy just south of Inverness – I didn’t know it would be right on the side of the loch! Beautiful location. Each day, after breakfast, I would plan that day’s rideout – I rode around Loch Lochy & Loch Ness, I went to Glen Coe, Glen Etive, Skye… the roads & the scenery were superb! A cloudy start each day cleared & the sun shone every day but one – that day I went quad biking near Fort William.

Each evening I would sit outside the hotel & watch the sun set over the loch. It seemed it soon ended – the last day came around & after a full breakfast the bike was loaded for the ride home. I will definitely be going again. If you haven’t done it, you really should. You will be amazed.
