Rust Protection tests

1 of 4

I’ve been experimenting at home, comparing the effectiveness of different products designed to protect against corrosion. I think this could be useful for other MCN readers who are trying to decide what product to go for.

I’d really like to see MCN conduct an investigation on a larger scale than mine- for example it would be good to include Scottoil FS365 and see how that compares to the products I tested.

I used 3 steel strips cut from a piece of steel, half of each piece was then filed and coated with either ACF50, WD40 or engine oil and then left outside. Note: they were on a slightly sloping surface which probably meant the coating was thicker on the furthest end, as seen best on the ACF50 sample that showed no rust at that end.
