Road safety expert’s anti-motorcycle letter to MPs

1 of 1

An influential road safety expert has told MPs bikes above 600cc should be banned to cut emissions.

In a letter obtained by MCN, Stephen Plowden, advisor to The Slower Speeds Initiative and author of several books on transport policy, says the move is also necessary on safety grounds.

He tells the House of Commons Transport Committee action is needed because: “Motorcycles are often poorly maintained or deliberately tampered with, and speeding is rife.”

It comes during an inquiry by the committee into what road safety policies Government should adopt from 2010.
