Shock - motorcyclist thinks new test is good thing!

As a keen motorcyclist for many years I cannot understand why so many people are up in arms about the new test.

Surely a test that is designed to be more challenging and ensure learners have sufficient control of the bike before being let out alone on the roads can only be good for everyone. Perhaps it will weed out those reckless few who give us respectable bikers a bad name!

I know that not everywhere will have a test centre, but we can’t complain that the Government waste public money in one breath and then say we need a new 2.5m test centre in the middle of nowhere in the next. Anyway, surely the true bike enthusiast would appreciate the excuse to go for a hour long cruise to the test centre – surely that’s one of the reasons we do it after all?!

Not everyone will agree with this stance and as I’m not a trainer I don’t have a business that will be affected, but I can’t see that people who want to learn are not going to go to their local ATB just because when it comes to doing their test (hopefully a one-off) they have to travel a couple of hours.

I’ll stop short of saying those that are complaining most may be the newest to the party, didn’t fully consider what was coming, and are now shocked to find out that the Government is not there to subsidise their earnings. I look forward to seeing the enlivened debate this will bring.
