Chopper tribute to Rally ace Richard Burns for sale

A one-off chopper created as a tribute to the late rally world champion Richard Burns is to be sold next week.

The bike, created by Midlands-based Ironside Choppers, cost around £18,000 to build over more than a 100 hours.

It carries the blue and yellow Subaru livery of Burns’ world championship winning Impreza and details of his long and successful rallying career.

There is also an image of the former World Rally Champion emblazoned on the fuel tank.

It has also been autographed by dozens of sporting greats including, Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart, Leon Haslam and James Haydon.

The bike will be sold at the Bonhams Collectors’ Motor Cars and Automobilia sale at Olympia in London on December 7 with all proceeds from the sale going straight to the Richard Burns Foundation.

The auction will not be the end of the partnership between the Richard Burns Foundation and Ironside Choppers as the manufacturers have made a generous long-term commitment to donate 10 per cent of their profits from the future sale of any bikes to the charity.

“We have received brilliant support from the motorsport world and it has been amazing to get the signatures of so many motorsport legends on the bike. 

“We have seen a great reaction from motorsport fans around the UK who have seen the bike so now we are just hoping that it will get the same reaction at the auction and raise as much money for the charity as possible.”
