End to lost bike licences fiasco in sight

1 of 1

MCN took a step towards fixing the fiasco of lost motorcycle licences today as the DVLA announced a consultation proposing our simple solution to the problem.

Our idea – which is simply to send people their old licences back with the corner cut off – would mean no more riders having to retake their test after receiving a new licence with motorcycle entitlement missing.

A DVLA spokesman said: “We have taken your suggestion seriously and we note the concern of the motorcycle industry. We will shortly be contacting a number of motorcycle stakeholders to discuss issues fully. MCN will of course be invited to this because we value your input and we hope to be able to arrange this meeting to take place in September.”

It comes after hundreds of MCN readers signed our petition calling for the DVLA to adopt our idea.

Hundreds of motorcyclists tell of receiving a replacement licence from the DVLA with entitlement to ride bikes missing. When notified the DVLA says there is no record of their ever having a motorcycle licence. Victims invariably have to retake their test to get their bike licence back.
