Harley-Davidson’s XR1200 flat-track style road bike has been given a complete performance and handling makeover by American firm Storz Performance.
The basic 2010 XR1200 has had work done to suspension, wheels, brakes, exhaust, handlebars and seat unit. This show bike has just been finished by Steve Storz – boss of the Storz Performance; an American firm which specialises in Harley-Davidson tuning parts.
The biggest changes are with the fitment of spoked wheels with alloy rims, billet aluminium hubs and polished stainless steel spokes. These changes are combined with a Storz/Ceriani set of upside down forks and a pair of YSS piggyback reservoir shocks.
Storz Performance owner Steve Storz said: “The XR1200 is decent bike in its stock form, but in my opinion it needs help in two areas: suspension and overall weight. We addressed the first issue with our Storz/Ceriani Inverted fork and the YSS shocks. Both items are a significant improvement over the stock equipment.
“The other area that needs improvement is overall weight in general, and unsprung weight in particular. The stock cast wheels are quite heavy. The standard cast rear wheel with tyre and pulley installed weighs approximately 43 lbs (19.5kg).
“By changing to wire spoke wheels, chain drive, high level exhaust, floating front discs, 10" rear brake disc, solo seat, and so on, we have reduced the overall weight by approximately 33 lbs (14.9kg).
“The riding position and styling of our new showbike is obviously different from the dirt track look, I suppose you cold call it a "Clubman" style for the XR1200.”
Other changes include lowered clip-ons handlebars and a billet alloy footrest and gearlever kit.
