TTXGP rules will be wiki-based in 2011

Rules are better written by fans and race teams themselves rather than faceless suits shut away in rooms reckons TTXGP organiser Azhar Hussain. That’s why the rules for his series from 2011 will be wiki-based – that is, put together, edited and perfected by anyone with an interest and an internet connection.

The 2010 rules will be uploaded in their entirety to http://www.egrandprix.com/wiki where they’ll be freely editable. A specially-appointed lawyer will monitor the wiki for six months, occupying the role of ‘super editor’. Technical experts will be appointed as sub-editors in due course, to make sure the rules work.

The finished set of regulations for 2011 will be frozen and published in October, and the process will repeat in the following year. It’s another inspired move by Hussain which helps keep his series closer to the pulse of modern race fans and participants, while leaving rival FIM look lead-footed.

Hussain says: “Rule-making for a worldwide series is a hard, thankless process that’s probably not best done by a handful of people in a room somewhere in Europe. Having our rules wiki-based helps us keep up with emerging technology and keep us sensitive to the needs of race teams the world over.

“Technology is moving too fast for any single person or committee to keep up. The net result is a lag that runs into years between what is possible and what is allowed.”
