Man behind most aggressive and unsafe bike ad ever hails industry ban on aggressive, unsafe bike ads

The motorcycle industry in Europe has imposed a voluntary ban on adverts portaying ‘Aggressive riding styles, and any depiction of unsafe behaviour on public roads’. ACEM, the manufacturers’ representative body, made the move in response to the European Commission’s Road Safety Action Programme, which ‘puts focus on vulnerable road users’.

Stefan Pierer, ACEM President and boss of KTM, says: “Motorcycle Manufacturers can play a significant role in improving road safety through communication and marketing. The Motorcycle Industry has  therefore agreed to strengthen its commitment toward road safety by following a common advertising policy, which sets clear rules to influence attitudes, change behaviours and thus contribute to make a difference in improving road safety on European roads.”

Ironically it was KTM which made the most aggressive (and brilliant) promotional video ever to come out of a manufacturer, for its 990 SuperDuke in 2006. We won’t see the like of this again:
