Nabbed at 38mph yards from 40mph sign

A motorcyclist has written an open letter to a police chief after being clocked by a speed camera at 38mph within yards of a 40mph sign.

He says the camera operator must have tracked him all the way through the Hertfordshire village and only caught him exceeding the 30mph limit as accelerated just before the 40mph sign.

The MCN reader, who sent us the picture anonymously, says in a letter to Hertfordshire Chief Constable Frank Whiteley: ‘Hopefully this action has helped you and your officer meet your targets but you should be aware that you have contributed nothing towards road safety.’

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Safety Camera Partnership said: “There is nowhere in the law that says it’s okay to start accelerating before the speed limit changes.”
