Kevin Ash was first and foremost a family man who adored his three daughters and wife, but he also happened to have a job he loved, as a motorcycle journalist.
Having written for MCN for twenty years or more and having a regular Daily Telegraph column as well as writing for publications across the world, he travelled far and wide to ride every type of bike you could imagine, to give his honest views to both industry and the public. Sadly on one of these occasions in January of this year he lost his life.
Please join us, in what promises to be an amazing evening...
As a way of a remembering Kevin Ash his wife Caroline and MCN Road Tester Adam Child have come up with ‘Kevin’s Last Lap’, which will be held at Silverstone International Circuit on Friday August 9th 2013 from 4pm onwards.
The evening will start off with the chance for you to ride your bike around the Silverstone International Circuit. There are 300 spaces available for the lap, and this will be decided on a first-come-first-served basis. This lap will not cost any extra to the ticket price of a £5 donation.
There will be an auction in aid of the Kevin Ash Fund (set up for his daughters’ education) which will be hosted by BBC F1 presenter Suzi Perry, a personal friend and colleague of Kevin who worked with him at the Telegraph.
Auction lots have been donated from across the industry, such as a full set of riding kit from Alpinestars, a set of MotoGP racer Dani Pedrosa’s leathers, a signed photograph from Valentino Rossi and passes to MotoGP, World Superbike and British Superbike events.
Pillion rides with the MCN road testers, Adam Child and Michael Neeves, will also be available to bid on.
There will be a live band, food and refreshments at the event too and Whittlebury Park have kindly offered to provide the venue for our evening party. For those of you who wish to stay over and make a night of it then camping pitches is available at the following cost:
Car + 1 tent: £25
Bike + 1 tent: £12
Full online booking for this can be found at the www.whittlebury.com camping page. Or please call Penny Clarke on 01327 850027
So why not come along and share the evening?
"We are very proud to be able to do something that we know Kev would have fully approved of. A fun evening riding around a track with good friends would have been just his cup of tea and we are all looking forward to a fantastic event.
Kevin Ash was part of MCN's fabric, so to do something like this seems wonderfully fitting. We hope that many of you sign up and get involved with this event."
