David Beckham gets driving ban

Football superstar David Beckham has been banned from driving for six months for using his mobile phone while driving.

The former England captain and keen motorcyclist pleaded guilty to using the device while driving his Bentley in London last November.

A court in Bromley heard he was photographed by a member of the public holding a phone as he drove in slow-moving traffic. Beckham, 44, received six points on top of the six he already had and was banned under totting up, was also fined £750 and was ordered to pay £100 costs.

Following his football career, Beckham became heavily involved with the world of motorbikes. He appeared in a short film by clothing manufacturer Belstaff, reportedly joined Tom Cruise’s LA-based bike club, the midnight boys, and rode a Triumph Scrambler into the Brazilian jungle for BBC One documentary: Into the Unknown.

When Belstaff released promotional images for their star-studded short film, Outlaws, in 2015 they also gave the world its first glimpse of the incoming Triumph Thruxton R.

The bike was the range-topping 1200cc parallel-twin version of the range of bikes that completely replaced the range of 865cc retro Triumphs in 2016.

The promotional shots were the first time the bike was shown in complete and undisguised form with only the exhaust tape and accessories like the mini indicators not being standard.

The replacement Bonneville range had been spotted in many and various forms over the previous three years as it underwent testing and development and MCN was at the forefront of spy photography tracking the progress of the range.

Nothing official was known about the bike at the time (it was rumoured to be named Street Tracker according to trademarks lodged in 2014) except for the fact the engine was completely new, around 1100cc, water-cooled for the first time and packing a lot more power so it could take on the likes of the BMW R nineT.

At the time it wasn’t known if this was a mistake or part of the marketing campaign by Triumph, but insiders told MCN it was very much a deliberate move by Triumph to leak the images ahead of the bike’s official unveiling.

Speaking about the film, Beckham said: “I always love to challenge myself. Filming Outlaws in the Mexican desert with Belstaff and the Legs Media team – not to mention working alongside Harvey, Cathy and Katherine – was an adventure I will never forget!”

Tom Cruise and David Beckham have reportedly formed an exclusive bike club for A-list celebrities in LA. The Midnight Boys Bike Club is said to take cruises through the Hollywood Hills in the dead of night.

Cruise and Beckham, who both ride Confederate Hellcats, have invited other stars including Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt to join, according to the Sunday Mirror.

A source told MCN: “At midnight they can get away with cruising around in a group and seeing the sights of LA without a zillion paparazzi chasing them around.”
