Biking heroes: ‘I’m helping those seriously injured while riding or racing’

Carole Nash and MCN, have launched a country-wide search to find the biker who gives something back, goes the extra mile and benefits those less fortunate than him or herself.

After a bad crash ended his racing career, Rosco Holden set up a charity to help others in the similar situations

“I had a short motocross career, in which I raced for around six years. I progressed through the smaller series and had success racing in America, but I crashed in 1979 while trying to avoid a crashed rider. I hit his bike at speed, which finished my racing career, but luckily I already had a career in retail.

“I’m fortunate enough to be pretty self-sufficient, so I can spend all my time concentrating on charities after setting up the Holden On Tight charity, which supports the two-wheel community. I know a lot of people in the motorcycle industry; from AMA to MotoGP
and Motocross, which really helps with the charity work. I’ve also been given a lot of stuff over the years that I can auction off and donate to charity, as well.

“The charity work really drives me; I’m helping riders who may have been seriously injured while riding or racing, and potentially have life-changing problems to deal with. I never know what’s going to come across my desk in an email, but I do whatever I can for them. It’s all about helping others and making a difference.

“My other passion is my museum. I set it up to help preserve Australian dirt-racing history, including the Dakar, enduro, motocross and freestyle. Luckily I get sent stuff everyday now for the museum, and generous people also donate stuff they have. It’s really important to me to preserve Australian racing history.”

Nominate your biking hero

Do you know a biking hero? We want you to nominate those who are worthy the recognition. And with cash prizes up for grabs, this is your chance to give your Biking Hero their moment in the spotlight. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for you and your hero to be part of the Carole Nash stand at the Motorcycle Live show at the NEC in November.

Carole Nash are offering a total of £2000 in prize money for the top three-placed heroes and their nominators. The hero crowned the overall winner will be presented with the Carole Nash Biking Hero 2017 trophy at Motorcycle Live. Now we appreciate that some of these biking heroes shun publicity or fuss, but this a chance to really highlight the work they do and the worthy causes they do it for.
