20 questions with John Reynolds

1 of 2

We sat down with three-time BSB champion and development rider John Reynolds to ask 20 quick questions.

Q1. What are you riding?

I’ve been developing Suzuki’s new GSX-R1000.

Q2. Which living rider do you most admire?

Valentino Rossi.

Q3. What’s your worst riding habit?

It might sound big-headed but, I haven’t got one.

Q4. What would like to have as a special power?

To be able to ride like Rossi.

Q5. What’s the fastest you’ve ever gone on a bike?

201mph at the Bruntingthorpe test track on my BSB Ducati.

Q6. When were you last scared on a bike?

The last time I rode one.

Q7. How many miles have you done in the last year?

3000.

Q8. What’s the highest mileage you’ve covered in one day?

Probably about 600.

Q9. What annoys you on a bike?

It’s got to be the wet.

Q10. You’ve got two weeks off: where are you going to ride?

I’d ride to Lanzarote.

Q11. What’s your pearl of wisdom for new riders?

The throttle works both ways!

Q12. Ever fallen off in a car park (or somewhere equally embarrassing)?

We’d had a problem with the bike I was on in WSB. I’d gone out to check some steering adjustments and when I came back into the pits and turned into the garage I ran out of steering lock. I fell off and went flying into all the toolboxes. I was riding for Ben Atkins and his wife June said: “Oh, he’s not very happy is he?” She thought I was upset about the bike and had chucked it in the garage.

Q13. Do you have one indispensable item of kit?

It’s all important!

Q14. Which four people would you invite on a Sunday blast?

I went out with MCN at Butlins last year and had a great time. I was out with John McGuinness and Chris Walker, and I know it’s sad to say but McGuinness was in front of me on the road and I was so tempted to pass him, just to say I’d passed McGuinness! But that aside, I’d pick four good mates.

Q15. Do you have a tool you couldn’t live without?

My wife.

Q16. Do you adjust your suspension?

Yes.

Q17. If you could have one of your old bikes back, which would it be?

My old Velocette 250 MOV.

Q18. What would you never buy?

An MZ.

Q19. Which track would you build on your desert island?

Phillip Island.

Q20. If you ruled the world, what new law would you pass?

I’d make life easier for new riders.
