7 reasons you should ride this week...

1 of 6

We look at seven great events happening all over the country this week to make sure you get your motorcycle fix, whatever the weather.

1. Arenacross Round 4

Where SSE Arena, Belfast
When January 27-28
Entry From £16
Info www.arenacrossuk.com

Round four takes us off the mainland and across the Irish Sea for another round of high-octane action, but this time it’s two days’ worth of crashing and bashing.

We say At this time of year the weather conspires to keep motorcycle racing on the sidelines, so Arenacross is a rare opportunity to see the thrills and spills we’re so used to enjoying in summer.

2. Kickstart Rally

Where Kemble Airfield, Cirencester
When January 27-29
Entry £13
Info www.ogrimcc.org

Ogri MCC are offering real ale, hearty winter food, free tea and coffee all weekend, live music and a rideout. What more could you ask for from an early-year rally?

We say Standing in a field with bikes as far as the eye can see is one of the best ways to feel the genuine warmth of the motorcycle community. If that’s not enough, there’s a bonfire for actual warmth.

3. Mablethorpe Beach Race

Where Mablethorpe beach, Lincolnshire
When January 29, from 8.30am
Entry Free to watch
Info www.sand-race.co.uk

The sand races at Mablethorpe have been going for the best part of 50 years and the action shows no sign of slowing. That said, the club has struggled for marshals  recently so get down there and show some support.

We say A certain Guy Martin made his way over to Mablethorpe recently to thrash his Tiger between the waves, so expect some bumper crowds on the off-chance of some sideburns in the sand.

4. ’Normous Newark Autojumble

Where Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire
When January 29 from 8am
Entry £10 before 10am, £7 after
Info www.newarkautojumble.co.uk

Some say the ‘Normous Newark Autojumble is the largest in the known universe, others say it’s just a good place to pick up spare parts within a reasonable driving distance. Whatever you think, it’s worth a look.

We say With the winter weather really beginning to bite, even the bravest of riders might be having second thoughts about heading out for a ride. What else is there to do with your time? Start a winter project of course. There’s no better place to find one than here.

5. Blues at The Bike Shed

Where Bike Shed Motorcycle Club, London
When January 26, from 7.30pm
Entry Free
Info www.thebikeshed.cc

Get ready for an evening of foot tapping from British blues guitarist Jack J Hutchinson, described as ‘everything that is so good about modern blues music’.

We say What’s better than blues, booze and bikes? The BSMC can get busy at times, especially on the club nights, so we’d definitely recommend emailing ahead and booking a table.

6. X-Country Enduro

Where Grogley Woods, Bodmin
When January 29, from 10am
Entry Free to spectate, £37.50 to enter
Info www.camel-valemcc.net

The Grogley X-Country is the first round of the South West Enduro Championship so expect a packed start line brimming with New Year’s resolution and serious competition.

We say So you’ve read about the Dakar and maybe even watched it on the big screen. Well this is where it all begins for a lot of competitors, so head down to the woods and see if you can catch a glimpse of the next Sam Sunderland or Lyndon Poskitt.

7. Hog out at the Ace

Where Ace Cafe, London
When January 26, from 6pm
Entry Free
Info www.ace-cafe-london.com

Whether you ride a 48 Sportster or a Panhead actually made in 1948, Harley night at the Ace is welcoming to all those riding rumbling Milwaukee twins.

We say Slash cut or straight shot? Sportster or Big Twin? Bacon bap or sausage roll? All these questions and many more can be expected at a Harley night at the Ace, but make sure you take some earplugs as the best way to choose between two exhausts is to listen to them.
