Bike Meet with a View

1 of 2

With long established meets regularly grabbing the limelight it can often be difficult for new ones to find their feet; heritage means a lot in the world of motorcycling and traditional gatherings are part of the culture. Every now and then however, a venue crops up with the potential to put itself firmly on the map – The Pelican Pub in Addlestone being a perfect case in point.

Following a change of ownership in late 2015 this cosy hostelry was completely refurbished, and thanks to a suggestion from one particularly enthusiastic regular began holding bike nights the following spring. Local riders quickly caught on and by the height of the season over 150 were rolling in very week. Being just inside the M25 to the south west of London it’s easy to get to from across the region and visitors come from as far afield as Kent and Essex, plus there are some great roads right on the doorstep.

The location itself is ideal; situated on the edge of an industrial estate it’s far enough from residential areas not to cause any disruption and there’s ample overflow parking as and when it’s required. That’s not to say that it’s surrounded by commercial units – in the opposite direction is a tranquil view across the River Wey to the open fields beyond. In fact the beer garden runs right to the water’s edge, making it a splendid spot at which to spend a summer’s evening.
