Following the deaths of three people in Chennai on March 8, Chennai City Police increased their presence and found 500 underage riders on the city’s roads.

The Chennai City Police commissioner asked the officers not to pressure the riders, who instead issued warnings and called the parents of the youngsters. The riders were also made to write: “I will not ride bike without obtaining proper document”.

A senior police officer told The Times of India that 75% of riders they pulled over did not have the correct licence.

The two motorcyclists killed in the March 8 collision on Chennai’s notorious East Coast Road were both riding on the wrong side of the road before they collided with each other.
