AGV have unveiled a new fully-carbon modular helmet at EICMA 2017, combining all of the benefits of a full-face sports lid, with the comfort and ease of a flip-up touring design.

The SportModular ranges from £594.95 to £679.95 depending on its colour scheme and is the only modular crash helmet to be built entirely of carbon fibre. It also boasts impact resistance on a par with AGV’s flagship Pista GP R.

MCN visited AGV’s headquarters in Vicenza, Italy, just under three weeks ago to see the Sportmodular first-hand. Here we spoke to Product Marketing Manager, Massimiliano Mirabella, who said: “This is a project that AGV has been working on for around three years, but it really embeds itself within 50 years of knowledge.

“During our research, we realised what people today call touring bikes are mostly just raised sportsbikes. If you look at things like the Ducati Multistrada, they have performance that just a couple of years ago would have been considered that of a race bike.

“We thought if a helmet could be both sporty and capable of touring then it would entirely meet the needs of the customers. This is a helmet that didn’t exist and it’s the best match between a sport and touring helmet.”

The 1.295kg helmet also comes with a 190-degree scope of vision, meaning greater awareness of the things around you on your travels. The visor also offers the same degree of optical clarity as that found in glasses lenses, meaning less fatigue on longer rides.

Other features of this design include an internal sun visor, reversible climate-control lining for warmer and colder conditions and a metal visor mechanism, 70% smaller than some of its rivals – giving improved overall structural strength.
