They might not have the exotic appeal of a gleaming sports missile, but as a practical way to get around, the maxi scooter is hard to beat, and Suzuki have just made their new Burgman 400 available.
Updated for this year, the new Burgman 400 features new styling, LED lights and has had a diet – shedding 7kg over the old model.
A larger front wheel and new suspension means the new model handles better and a claimed 71mpg means it sips fuel like a fine whiskey. The 42 litres of under seat storage and 12v socket also help with everyday practicalities.
Suzuki have addressed the growing crime problem too. The Burgman 400 features a chain lock gate, which enables a chain to pass through the bodywork and attach the scooter to an immobile object. Helping to beef this up is an immobiliser as well.
The Burgman 400 is available now in dealerships, with an RRP of £6299. If that’s a little too much all at once, Suzuki offer the maxi scooter with a PCP deal that can see it ridden home for as little as £44.40 a month over a three-year period, a deposit of £2500 and a final repayment of £3120. Or it can also be had for £121.39 a month on a hire purchase deal, with the same deposit amount and agreement term.
We’ve ridden it
We rode the updated machine back in August and were impressed with what was on offer. It’s more nimble around town and the revamped 400cc single cylinder engine’s improved low to mid-range torque ensures a swift and progressive ride on the open road.
It brings the maxi scooter up-to-date with the competition, like Yamaha’s new X-Max 400, which we also recently rode in Northern France.
You can find out more on the scooter at your local Suzuki dealership.
