Officially one of the best on the spanners in Europe

A Suzuki mechanic working at Bristol’s Fowlers dealership has come second in a European-wide competition that celebrates and finds the best technicians on the continent.

Dave Ball has been a motorcycle technician for a meagre 37 years, so obviously doesn’t have that much experience under his belt. In all seriousness, he was in a competition against nine of the most skilled mechanics in Europe and only missed out on the top spot by a whisker.

Dave had to complete three separate tasks and do a 60-minute written exam for the competition, which was hosted by Suzuki in Bensheim, Germany.

“It was a privilege to be picked to compete in this competition, and while it’s always disappointing to be this close to winning anything, I’m still delighted to finish second” said Dave. “There were a lot of skilled technicians competing for this award, which shows just how high the standard of training is at Suzuki, globally. It was a great experience and hopefully I get a chance in the future to go one better.”

Second place wasn’t too bad, and saw him take home a trophy, Suzuki watch and an iPad which came with a personalised case.

The competition was last hosted in 2006. Suzuki are hoping now to make it a regular occurrence following the success of this year’s event.
