#ride5000miles members rack up the miles

Early Autumn is proving a great time for our #ride5000miles members with some epic road trips as readers chase the sun. One trip that caught our eye was Russ McQuinlan’s adventure with 15 other Honda Blackbird owners for the 9th Annual Scottish Blackbird meet on some of the fastest, most flowing roads north of the border.

“Guys came from the West and North of Ireland, North and South Wales and the New Forest, so we are doing our bit to promote riding 5000 miles a year. It was a great weekend, good craic and even the weather stayed dry,” said Russ.

MCN’s staff have been piling on the miles recently too. Our Web Producer James Archibald clocked up 600 miles last weekend, while Senior Editor Matt Wildee hit 1800 miles in three days on a work trip to Germany and Austria and back. Meanwhile, Deputy Editor Richard Newland recently completed a stunning 2000-mile trip of Norway on an Africa Twin.

Our Facebook group is a source of inspiration, with riders posting their best pics and routes. It’s a great place to be and R5K is summed up well by resident statto, Patrick William Jordan: “Riding 5000 miles in a year puts you in the top 2.5% of full motorcycle licence holders and in the top 9% of active motorcyclists with full licences!”
