Two stunning custom Royal Enfields will take part in the Great Malle Rally; a five-day, 1250-mile multi-stage ride around some challenging UK roads and trails later this month.
The route takes in everything from fast sweepers to off-road special tests, so luggage experts Malle took a pair of standard Interceptor 650s and toughened them up. This particular bike will be ridden by the lucky person who won a competition for the final ticket to ride, while the other will be ridden by a mechanic who is supporting the whole field of riders.
The engine is standard but now breathes through a set of custom slip-ons from British Customs, which don’t add any more horses but do give it one hell of a soundtrack. BC also supplied heavy duty foot pegs and tracker handlebars.
To help cope with all that the rally can throw at the bike, the standard suspension was ditched in favour of some extended rear shocks and WP forks. Harris Performance have fabricated a set of custom yokes as well as a rugged alloy bash guard to complement the steel crash bars.
For a bit more traction off-road, the tyres have been swapped for wider, heavy duty Heidenau K60 dual sport rubber and just in case a wrong turn results in a late finish the Enfield’s standard headlight has been swapped out for a dual PIAA set-up.
Carrying capacity is critical so the bike has a full set of Malle waxed canvas luggage, including panniers, duffle and tank bag. Each bike has custom paint too, adorned with relief maps of some of the rally’s best roads, including Bealach na Ba in Scotland and the Hardknott Pass in the Lake District.
For now the bikes are one-offs but, with the Interceptor 650 selling strongly in the UK, a special-edition could be on the cards.
