MCN reader Matthew Brookfield thought it was a scam when he got the call telling him he’d just won a brand-new Yamaha MT-09 SP.

Yamaha and MCN teamed up to give away the stunning £10k super-naked and thousands of entries flooded in. But it was 56-year-old Matthew who walked away with the 900cc power-packed triple.

He said: "I couldn’t believe it when I got the call. I thought it was a scam. It was only when I followed it all up that I realised I had actually won.

"I don’t normally enter competitions but I always keep an eye on MCN and the website so when I saw the comp I thought ‘why not?’ Now my mates are very jealous. Some of them even entered the competition themselves… which makes this even sweeter!"

Matthew only had to wait about seven days after getting the good news before picking the bike up from West London Yamaha.

After riding his prize the 10 miles to his Uxbridge home, he was beaming. "I have a Suzuki SV650 at the moment so am not used to all of the electronics and stuff but once I’d worked out how to get it into the right mode, I was blown away.

"It’s properly fast and I just love it. I am definitely keeping it and will use it for weekend rides with my mates and a bit of commuting."

Matthew only returned to biking a couple of years ago after a short break and was using the twin-cylinder Suzuki as a way of easing himself back into things. But he was already starting to consider a step up. "I’ve owned a lot of bikes over the years but have never really been a Yamaha man… until now! And I didn’t even have to ask the wife for permission to buy it!"
