Wave goodbye to forgotten blinkers: UK biker invents indicator alarm system

1 of 3

A retired electrical engineer has developed a one-size-fits-all indicator alarm for the inevitable times we sail down the road blissfully unaware the orange bulb is blinking – and is looking for investors to come on board.

Joe Cowell’s invention differs from the few indicator alert systems already on the market in that it does not rely on a Bluetooth communications device to alert the rider, neither does it require a direct attachment with the battery for power.

Instead the Eskaz device wires straight into the indicators and a 90dB alarm, contained in a waterproof box, is attached to the handlebars or suitable mount.

The Eskaz device is simple to install

“It came about because I know I am forgetful and I do forget to cancel the indicators, as do many other people I see on the road,” said Joe.

“So I put a buzzer across the indicators, which worked fine, but it is most annoying. So I thought: ‘What if I put some sort of delay on this?’ Next I set about designing my own system, which I did over a couple of months.”

The Eskaz will wait for 15 seconds after you begin indicating before the alarm begins to sound in tandem with the indicator and stops once the indicator is cancelled.

The Eskaz needs no direct power supply

“Generally I found I was indicating for about eight or nine seconds before I made a turn,” said Joe. “So I figured six seconds the other side you should have cancelled your indicators.”

Joe now has materials for a batch of 200 which can be sold in the EU and UK. For information about the product or to order one, email: admin@eskaz.com.
