Bumper weekend of sales at Devitt MCN Festival Silverstone Auction

Following their introduction to the Devitt MCN Festival of Motorcycling at the East of England Showground last year, Silverstone Auctions made their return over the weekend, offering 156 lots from race bikes to modern classics at MCN’s last ever event at the venue.

Motorcycle Manager with the auction house, Mark Bryan, said interest had been good during the viewing day on the first day of the festival, which seeks a new home as the showground closes for redevelopment.

He highlighted lots he thought would do well including several Ducati 916 sportsbike models and a Harley-Davidson XL883R Sportster cruiser that had “sat for a few years in a container.”

2001 Harley-Davidson XL883R

Having covered just over 3000 miles the 2001 Harley-Davidson needed a good clean and may require reconditioning to spark the big V-twin back to life. It sold for £3600.

Of the many Ducati models up for grabs a 2001 Ducati 748 Biposto, that had travelled from the Channel Islands, sold for £6750, while a 1994 Ducati 916 SP fetched a hefty £20,250.

Classics did well with a tidily restored 1968 BSA A65 Firebird Scrambler selling for £6750. The US imported, 650cc machine has just 14 miles on the clock, a fibreglass fuel tank and striking red and white livery with the US and British flags embossed onto the side fairing.

2000 Honda VTR1000 SP1

Meanwhile modern classics were also much sought after with a stunning 2000 Honda VTR1000 SP1 fetching £8438 with 17,000 miles on the 998cc, 136bhp V-twin power unit.

The auction house last worked with MCN at the Devitt MCN London Motorcycle Show in February selling 80% of the lots for £850,000. For a full breakdown of the runners and riders visit the Silverstone Auctions website.
