Kawasaki launch voice control technology for 2025 bikes including Z900, Ninja 1100SX and Versys 1100

Kawasaki is bringing voice control to its 2025 line-up, debuting a new system on the revamped Z900, Ninja 1100SX, and Versys 1100, with more models expected to follow.

MCN spoke with the firm’s factory in Japan to learn more about the technology behind the system.

Developed in-house and integrated with Cerence voice command software, the system allows riders to control several functions hands-free while on the move.

With 18 available commands, users can make phone calls, check the weather, adjust the volume, access navigation, and monitor vehicle information.

“Kawasaki is at the forefront of electronic rider-aid technology,” said a company spokesperson. “This includes not only engineering-based features but also a focus on the current and future needs of riders.”

While the marque has not disclosed market research data on demand for voice control, it has revealed that the system will require an annual charge, unlike traditional in-car systems.

“The licence for the voice command app is linked to the owner, not the machine,” Kawasaki confirmed. “If the bike is sold within a year of purchase, the new owner will not be able to access the previous owner’s voice command functionality.”

“However, if the original owner buys a new Kawasaki with voice control, the licence will transfer over.”

The project has been in development for over a year, with one of the biggest challenges being the recognition of multiple languages and accents across different markets.

Due to potential wind noise interference, Kawasaki recommends using the system only at speeds below 120 km/h (75 mph).
