Icons in the spotlight: Suzuki GSX-R and RG500 40th anniversary weekend heading to Cadwell Park

An action-packed weekend of trackday antics is coming to Lincolnshire’s Cadwell Park this summer, celebrating the 40th anniversary of both the Suzuki GSX-R name, and the iconic RG500 four-cylinder two-stroke.

Both the first GSX-R750 and RG models came to market in 1985, with the weekend set to also welcome displays, parades, and track sessions for both model lines.

Taking place on July 19 and 20, the celebration will sit as part of a larger Cadwell Park Summer Bash, hosted by Classic Bike Trackdays.

The company was established in 2012 and specialise in events for pre-2000 machinery of all kinds, plus newer bikes in the spirit of the events such as modern retros.

Motorcycles of all manufacturers are welcome to attend, and on-track sessions will run for all GSX-R models built between 1985 and 2025.

Special sessions will be laid on for post-2000 models, with the last of the new GSX-R1000 models leaving UK dealerships at the advent of Euro5 in 2022 following the earlier departure of the 600 and 750 models.

Alongside GSX-Rs, Suzuki’s smoking RG500 will be in the spotlight, with both 500 and RG400 owners invited to celebrate the milestone. Evening entertainment is also set to take place on the Saturday night, with more details to follow.

In past years, Classic Bike Trackdays have worked with Suzuki GB to deliver Suzuki Live at the Lincolnshire circuit, however the event will sadly not be running in 2025.

“After three excellent years Suzuki Live will take a hiatus in 2025,” Suzuki GB marketing manager, Jak Tyrrell confirmed. “We really enjoyed them all and are grateful to everyone that turned up to make them so successful, with each event being bigger and better than the one before.

“And, while there will be no Suzuki Live this year, we can say that it will return in 2026 where will be aiming to make it even bigger and better again,” Tyrrell continued.

“However, we will still have a packed calendar of events this year, on regional and national levels, including a series of roadshow events where we will provide riders the length and breadth of the country with the opportunity to test ride and experience the latest Suzuki machinery.”

Despite Suzuki Live not taking place, those wanting to get involved with the GSX-R celebration can book tickets and trackday places online now. Single day track sessions are priced at £179, with two days of fun costing £299. Spectators are also welcome.
