Own Foggy’s leathers and lid! Racing legend’s kit goes under the hammer at upcoming auction

Multiple sets of leathers and a helmet worn by four-time World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty are currently up for grabs in an online Bonhams auction.

Offered as part of the Dale Winfield Collection, the memorabilia is on sale without reserve and includes a one-piece suit by Manx Leathers, and an Arai helmet – both worn by Fogarty on the way to his 1988 Formula One world title.

The Lancashire rider had to overcome a points deficit to five-time world champion and 26-time TT winner, Joey Dunlop in order to clinch the crown – with both the leathers and helmet obtained directly from Foggy by the late collector.

A second set of his leathers, from the very early stages of his career, are also available without reserve.

On top of these items, the Winfield collection sale also includes an Isle of Man TT replica trophy awarded to Fogarty for his ninth-place finish in the 1987 Production D race, when he was riding a Yamaha in only his second year at the event.

On top of this, there’s also the chance to take home his second-place replica from the 1992 Senior TT race – in which he faced off against Steve Hislop and his ‘White Charger’ Norton rotary, in what many regard as the greatest-ever race around the island’s 37.73-mile course.

Again, riding a Yamaha – this time a Loctite Yamaha OW-01 – he went on to set a new lap record of 123.61mph on the final lap. Although being sold without reserve, it’s expected to fetch between £2000 and £3000.

These are not the only trophies included in the listings, either – with a selection of Mike Hailwood memorabilia also available without reserve as a job lot. Mike the Bike made his grand prix debut in 1958 and took nine world championship titles, as well as 14 TT wins.

Included within the selection of items are two 350cc class trophies from Snetterton circuit in Norfolk – one from 1959 and another from 1960, which were awarded for the fastest lap time.

Quintet of motorcycles offered as part of the collection

Away from racing history, a number of motorcycles are also available in the 165-lot auction, ranging from 1920s Harley-Davidsons to Honda Dax minibikes, and a 2014 MV Agusta.

Visit the Bonhams website to place your bids. The auction will run until June 16.
