Buxton motorcycle club passes £18,000 for Cancer Research UK with seventh annual charity run

Members of the Buxton Motorbike Club have raised over £2400 with a 72-mile ride through the countryside – bringing their running total to more than £18,000 for good causes.

Taking place on Sunday, May 11, the ride attracted 40 members, and took in parts of Cheshire, north Staffordshire, and Derbyshire.

For the last seven years, it has raised money for Cancer Research UK and helps pay tribute to six former member taken by the disease. The first year’s event also raised money for Manchester Children’s Hospital.

“We do a different route every year,” Chairman of the club, Frank Hambleton, 82, said. “We’ll do it again, and we’ll do it after I’ve stepped back. It’s something we do now in people’s memory.”

Riders met at Haddon Hall Care Home in Buxton and were required to pay a minimum donation of £10 to take part. A final total of £2473 was collected for this year, with a cheque already sent to the charity.

“I can’t see us doing this ride for anyone else,” the Indian FTR S rider continued. “We do give money to the Blood Bikes and the local Air Ambulance though.”

According to Frank, the club is going from strength to strength, with 11 new riders joining across May, and over 270 members signed up to their Facebook page.

On top of the annual charity run, they also host Peak District rides on Tuesday evenings, plus longer Sunday routes to locations including north Wales.
