Bike and Brew café charity challenge kicks off giving bikers the chance to win a Kawasaki Z900

Mental wellbeing charity Make Your Mark have opened sign-ups for their treasure hunt-style Bike and Brew café challenge, offering entrants the chance to bag a £13,249 Kawasaki Z900RS SE, among other prizes.

Set to start on May 1, the initiative will issue riders with a ‘passport’ containing the names of participating venues, which bikers are then tasked with visiting to acquire a stamp – given in exchange for purchasing a hot drink.

For every 15 stamps collected, participants will receive one entry into a raffle, which will take place after the challenge closes on October 31. It’s hoped that the scheme will support local businesses, and encourage riders to visit new roads.

The winner will take home the four-cylinder Kawasaki, with additional, yet to be confirmed, smaller bikes as runner-up prizes. Charity sponsor Litelok is also giving away a bundle of their X-series locks to accompany the bikes.

“The Bike and Brew is an extension of our central ethos,” founder Paul Sims told MCN. “The purpose of the event isn’t just to raise money for good causes and support the cafés – though it does that – it’s also to give bikers an excuse to get out and enjoy the mental wellbeing benefits of riding.”

The charity offer free mental health first aid courses to bikers, while also offering monthly support meet-ups at the Owl’s Nest café in Llandovery. They also raise money for community good causes, such as food banks and homeless shelters.

A passport event recently took place at the Owl’s Nest, taking hundreds of orders alone.

“The car park was absolutely rammed, with bikes having to park right down the drive,” Sims continued.  “We were rushed off our feet selling passports. We sold a couple of hundred on the first day alone, even before we officially announced that the passports were available online.

“We have cafés in Wales, the border counties, the Cotswolds, all the way to Oxford, and the Midlands around Birmingham and Wolverhampton,” he added. “Places across the country have asked to get involved, but I had to draw the line somewhere for our first year.

“When I started this, at least a dozen cafés said they wouldn’t open this year due to poor trade, so this event shows just how important it is.”

The Bike and Brew ‘passports’ are now on sale via the charity’s website for £12 each, with as many as 10,000 entrants expected throughout the year. Additional donations can be made through the group’s JustGiving page, with participants who raise over £100 winning exclusive event merchandise.

Looking ahead, Sims added: “We’ve just appointed nine ambassadors to help manage the current cafés and scout new locations for 2026. I’m targeting 200 for next year – with plans for the Peak District, Derbyshire Dales, Cheshire, and as far south as Exeter.”
